A sewing box is a world, a wild ecosystem, a thing of promise and potential. Beautiful tools, in the hands of a maker, make the making more joyful— fingers itch for a fine needle, an antique thimble pocked with decades of projects, a beeswax shape that smooths thread through fabric. There are buttons and snips and bobbins of lace waiting nestled and longing for what your hands will make of them.
This antique wooden sewing box with four drawers and glass knobs has been painstakingly restored. The drawers are lined with hand-printed paper. The scissor drawer is lined with red velvet and another, filled with a curated selection of Valdani threads, has a red velvet pincushion built into the back. Another drawer contains a needle minder and pins by Cohana, Japanese sashiko needles, and a beeswax cake wrapped in TATTER tissue paper. Inside the largest drawer is a collection of historical treasures: a vintage darner, rare antique Japanese indigo dyed fabrics, handmade lace and early machine-made lace, and sets of vintage buttons on TATTER designed cards.
